Our initiative was conceived in 2022 thru the desire of many coaches to build lacrosse locally for all ages.
The Purpose of a Appalachian States Lacrosse (ASL) Conference, Training Camps, and Club programs is to develop a community of lacrosse for the greater Tristate area, effect necessary coordination of all lacrosse agencies and organizations in the community, and to honor the rich history of this program. To simply grow the game.
We as an organization strive to build Teamwork among coaches and athletes and are committed to be example of how the game should be played. Appalachian States Lacrosse also strives to coordinate and promote the great men and women who officiate our games by promoting local opportunities, recruiting, and offering local trainings.
Coach Tom Jurkovitz graduated from Edgewood High School in Edgewood, MD and was a multiple sport athlete who lettered in soccer, swimming, and lacrosse. He moved his family to the Martinsburg area in 2005 and has been involved in numerous local sports teams. He coached rec soccer, basketball, and baseball in Berkley County early on and has been an Assistant Coach for the Spring Mills Boy’s lacrosse team since 2016. He has had four of his children involved in the Spring Mills lacrosse program and is excited about growing the game in the eastern panhandle and beyond!
Retired and ASLC co-founder Coach Jeremy Kortright began this journey in lacrosse at Smithsburg High in 1991. His passion for the sport grew thru college as he participated on the Liberty University Lacrosse team as a midfielder from 1994-1998. Since college he has coached for St Johns Regional Catholic School, St. John’s Propsect Hall, and eventually Spring Mills High in fall of 2014. Coach Kortright was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Liberty University in 2016 for his time spent on the Liberty Lacrosse team and his work to promote a community of lacrosse with the alumni at the school.
“Coach Ellis enters his second year in coaching and first as Head Coach for Spring Mills High School. Coach Ellis attended Grove City College where studied History. A avid reader, Coach Ellis is a big supporter of Leadership Studies and looks to bring an increased focus on Student-Athlete Development to Spring Mills High School. Outside of Lacrosse, Coach Ellis is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athlete and has 1 orange cat.”
Coach Blackshear has been Coaching Lacrosse at Hedgesville for 2 seasons. He has led the eagles to a State Championship in 2022 for the Division 2 State Title.
Coach Troppman has been the head coach for Martinsburg High School for four seasons. With two state championships, Coach Neil is a veteran coach with a clear knowledge of the game.
Tyler Moore, has been a part of spring mills lacrosse program for 7 years as of this spring, He coaches faceoffs and defense, and the sport of lacrosse is and always will be a huge part of his life.
Ryan is the offense and faceoff coach for Spring Mills Lacrosse. 2024 will be his first season with the Cardinals and he is very excited. Ryan played lacrosse in high school in Virginia before playing at Old Dominion University.
Coach Campbell is the offense coordinator and coach for the Spring Mills Lacrosse Team. Coach Campbell has coached youth thru high school, officiated at the mens level in Maryland. Coach Campbell played College lacrosse at Frostburg State University.
Coach Williams has been involved in lacrosse, wrestling, and football for years. Mark coaches the defense end of the game at Spring Mills High School.
Appalachian States Lacrosse (ASL) is committed to provide opportunities for athletes playing the great sport of Lacrosse. Member teams are geographically located along the Rt I-81 corridor in Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. Conference play is one simple way the ASL has expanded opportunities for youth to participate in this great sport.
